Since deliveries of series-production traction vehicles with three-phase power transmission commenced in the early 80's, the concepts and components used have been improved in numerous details, in order to provide an optimum solution to the operators' requirements. At present, decisive incentives come from the availability of large GTO thyristors, which allow simplified circuitry, further improvement in performance characteristics and above all the implementation of new improved
