| Abstract | To control hegawatts we can now use thyrithe gate turn-off thyrister, the giant transistor or the insulated gate bipolar transistor. Present and exepted future ratings are compared and it is noted that the fields controlled thyristor will shortly be a serious competitor of the shaller devices, whilst the fields effect transistor is likely to remain an exceptional contender at megawatt ratings. | |||||
