A new snubber configuration for application in choppers and inverters with GTO thyristors or power transistors has been developed. Each phase-leg of a voltage source PWM inverter is equipped with a snubber netwerk consisting of a single snubber capacitor, one storage capacitor, two auxiliary diodes and a single resistor. A substantial part of the snubber energy can be recovered by a secondary winding on the turn-on snubber inductance, reducing the total snubber losses to less than one third compared with a conventional RCD snubber. |
