| Abstract |
This article concerns a high-performance static switch associated with a drive enabling its use in the majority of converters. lts power stage is a GTO-MOS cascode controlled by a high-voltage MOS. When the cascode is protected in dv/dt by an RCD snubber, insertion of an inductance on the GTO anode circuit and wiring in parallel of a capacitor on its gate circuit considerably improve the turn off process. The cascode structure, careful design and very fine interdigitation of the cathode and of the GTO gate enable snubberless operation. The drive ensures natural and controlled commutation, protection against overloads and short-circuits. |
