The switched or variable reluctance motor has significant advantages for industrial variable speed drive applications but control strategies are difficult to analyse and complex to implement due to machine non-linearities. In this paper, a comprehensive suite of variable reluctance motor performance simulation programs, based solely on the machine's flux linkage curves, is described. Optimum current-fed and voltage-fed control strategies can thus be predicted. An intelligent multimode 8096-based variable reluctance motor drive system, capable of imptementing these strategies, is presented. |
