Abstract |
An extraordinarily robust and compact bridge-leg design is presented. It is a building block for an inverter operating a three phase brushless permanent magnet velocity servo drive. The design can also be adopted for switch-mode power supply (SMPS) applications. It is capable of switching 800V and 20A nominal at a switching frequency in excess of 20kHz without snubbers. Protection against short-circuit of the output to ground and output to high voltage D.C. are incorporated. Switching, conduction and drive losses are minimized resulting in a high power to volume equipment. It utilizes transistors with a new cellular bipolar technology called the ETD. The cholce of the power device is justified by considering numerous device technologies and concepts for high voltage and high power applications. |
