 Abstract   The paper reports on the development of a high frequency, modular, robust battery charging system developed for application in track-side signalling houses of the Railway System. The small, light weight charger works at ultrasonic frequency, is fed from the 380 V, three phase system, consists of identical 1,5 kW single phase modules with transformer isolation via ferrite transformers, draws sinusoidal supply current and uses a topology for minimising the number of components to increase reliability and reduce production cost. The paper reports on the development and final prototype tests, as well as application conditions.
