   On the Influence of the Stator Winding Topology on the Electromagnetic Emissions of Fractional Horsepower BLDC Motors   [View]

 Abstract   Due to the increasing number of electronic devices in the automotive sector, the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of auxiliary drives has become increasingly important in recent years. This paper investigates the influence of the three different winding topologies monofilar, bifilar and bifilar twisted on the EMC performance of fractional horsepower (FHP) brushless DC (BLDC) motors. The main coupling path of the motor for the radiated emissions is the parasitic coupling capacitance C$\_{\text{p}}$ of the stator lamination stack and the motor winding. The comparison of EMC measurements carried out in a shielded chamber show the influence of this coupling. A decreased coupling reduces the radiated emissions by 5\,dB$\_{\upmu \text{V/m}}$ over a wide frequency range. If the excitation of this coupling path is also decreased, the radiated emissions decline by almost 10\,dB$\_{\upmu \text{V/m}}$. This allows the necessary EMC filter's size to be reduced.
