In this paper, a control strategy improvement for controlling Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converters withPhase Control Modulation (PCM) is proposed. The analysis of PCM currently available in literatureneglects the effects of the components' resistive losses, as well as the resistance of the transformerwindings, for determining the required phase shift f between the primary side and secondary side bridges. The analytical method of the PCM is extended with simple algebraic relationships for the required phaseshift f for the needed output power. The effects of including the resistive losses from the componentsis presented not only for the required control angle, but also for the zero voltage switching region of thesemiconductors. A study case of a Dual-Active-Bridge converter in a 22 kW on-board charger applicationis given to demonstrate the procedure of the method. |
