 Abstract   This work addresses the computation of three-level optimized pulse patterns with zero common mode component. Linear constraints of the switching angles are formulated which are employed in their computation. The proposed approach is straightforward and avoids ambiguous formulations of the problem in the frequency domain or complex mixed time-frequency formulations. Based on the linear constraints of the switching angles a theoretical limit of the maximum modulation index of pulse patterns with zero common mode is also established. Characteristic numerical results of the computed pulse patterns are presented and discussed.
