Abstract   This paper investigates the influence of the connection configuration of two dual active bridge (DAB) converters for the battery charger on their characteristics. Characteristics differences are examined between two configurations, which are DC-link Input Series Output Parallel (DC-ISOP) and AC-link Input Series Output Parallel (AC-ISOP) topology. In addition, the operation method of the AC-ISOP topology is investigated; and it is derived that AC-ISOP topology has higher current control capability than DC-ISOP topology from frequency domain analysis. Experimental results show the comparison of the operation of two connection configurations. As a result, in addition to AC-ISOP DAB converter is equivalent to DC-ISOP DAB converter under the specific condition, it is clarified that AC-ISOP DAB converter has higher harmonic components control capability than DC-ISOP DAB converter.
