Gate drive circuits for GTO's have been known for some years. However with increasing power ratings of variable-speed drives for asynchronous motors, power semiconductors capable of carrying high currents and withstanding high voltages are needed. This paper presents a new generation of gate drivers for these large GTO's. Each driver consists of a galvanically independant voltage supply, optical fibres for signal transfer and a supervision circuit. GTO on/off sensing is based on gate-sensing rather then anode-sensing. |
