The world's first variable speed pumped storage system fed by large-scale cycloconverter was brought into operation at the Yagisawa power station Unit 2 of the Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. in December, 1990. This remarkable system incorporates the latest large scale, large capacity power electronics technology, ultrahigh-speed digital control technology, and large scale, large capacity generator-motor technology.
