Abstract   In the paper a brief state-of-the-art in CAD of converters is presented with special focus on traction applications. Recent works on modelling of thyristors are discussed. Brief survey of CAD of traction converters and drives with use of SPICE-2 program is done. Main features of recently developed special packages for power electronic circuits analysis are discussed. On the basis of the above survey advantages of NAP-2 (Nonlinear Analysis Program) software package in application to power electronic circuit analysis are shown. Simulation model of a traction 3kV chopper for the EN-57 electrical multiple unit is presented. Results of simulation of this chopper using NAP-2 program are quoted. Simulation results are compared with experimental ones measured on a prototype chopper vehicle.
