Abstract |
This paper compares the control methods for the power circuit of a battery charger using IGBTs for the power supply of railway passenger cars. Two structures are discussed for the power circuit: (1) the voltage source push-pull converter (VSPPC) and (2) the current source push-pull converter (CSPPC). From a controls point of view both systems have equivalent structures. Using the state space representation we easily can calculate the transfer function between output voltage and duty ratio or between output current and duty cycle. These can then be used for dimensioning the controller. Single loop and two kinds of two-loop control structures are investigated, the controller concepts are compared and guidelines for the selection of the concept are explained. Furthermore, root locus diagrams and simulation of the systems behavior are shown for a 220A battery charger. |
