Abstract |
This paper deals with a combined system of a shunt passive filter and a series active filter, which aims at an alternative to a shunt active filter and a combined system of a shunt passive filter and a shunt active filter. The shunt passive filter plays a role in filtering harmonics, just. like a conventional one does. On the other hand, the series active filter plays an essential role not only in improving compensation charachteristics of the shunt passive filter used alone, but also in damping parallel and series resonance between the shunt passive filter and the source impedance. A prototype combined system consisting of a shunt passive filter of rating 10kVA and a series active filter of rating 0.18kVA was constructed and tested to compensate for the harmonics produced by a three-phase twelve-pulse thyristor rectifier of rating 20kVA. lnteresting experimental results obtained from the prototype are shown to demonstrate excellent practicability and validity. |
