Abstract   This paper presents some results of studies on a three phase PWM current source converter to suppress harmonics. Two criteria to design an input filter are proposed and the switching frequency of converter is defined by considering a sideband of a pulse pattern. To meet a high dynamic of compensation current control, a new control method is proposed. It reduces not only an oscillation, caused by the resonance of the input filter but also shows a quick response to follow references. An optimal value of the inductive storage is discussed with respect to an operating point. The experimental results of the whole system indicate a significant improvement of compensating characteristics. Besides, experimental results of further applications compensating reactive power and balancing nonllnear a.symmetrical load are also reported.
