Abstract |
In this paper we will describe the characteristics, the design criteria and experimental results of a new power converter for a 6 MW high performance locomotive with asynchronous motors. The drive system consists of two voltage source inverters (one for each motor) fed by a reversible three phase chopper for a regenerative and/or rheostatic brake. Each bogie drive is carried out with a 3 MW multistage converter in order to optimize the number of components with line voltage variable between 2 and 4 kV. In this project many innovative technologies for traction applications have been introduced and developed as GTOs in series operation, forced water cooling, fibre opties for firing and diagnostics signals and low losses snubber circuits. |
