Abstract |
For traction applications the inverter with impressed voltage has achieved a dominating position. First, it was its versatile range of applications from diesel-electric locos to DC and AC fed electric locos, which could be covered with the same converter components. Still in the development stage of forced commutated converters very modular converter designs have been realized. The introduction of GTO technology further promoted the inverter principle with impressed voltage. The modularity of the converter design could be consequently utilized. By means of some outstanding examples of high power traction converters the success in volume reduction by GTO application is demonstrated . |
