Abstract |
This work studies active magnetic bearings design alternatives for a contactless operation of high-speed multi megawatt solid rotor induction motor. Different actuator geometries, employment of flux barriers, use of rectangular multi-step wound coils, alterations in winding schemes, and comparison of silicon steel sheets with cobalt-iron sheets in AMB design are examined. Minimum space, maximum capacity, electromagnetic operation at high-speeds, and bandwidth requirements are discussed. Functional comparison of selected geometries is presented based on FEM results. Lookup table based electromagnet model suitable for control design verification is disclosed. |
