Abstract |
Based on the ability of the ac/dc convertor to absorb controllable reactive power an alternative to the thyristor controlled reactor is proposed. A twelve-pulse naturally commutated convertor configuration is modified, using the concept of dc ripple reinjection, to achieve 36-pulse operation, thus removing the need for ac filters. The EMTDC-PSCAD program is used to compare the dynamic performance of this VAR compensator with that of the 12-pulse thyristor controlled reactor. |
