Abstract   A calculation of the high frequency machine capacitances is presented and compared with measured bearing currents of a small outer rotor 2.4 kW-fan PM synchronous motor with a tooth-coil winding. The integrated two-level voltage-source, 16 kHz switching frequency IGBT inverter, operates at Vdc = 540 V DC link voltage. Due to the small size of the motor no circulating bearing currents can occur, but only discharge bearing currents. The measured bearing current density of approximately 0.1 A/mm² is small enough to avoid a bearing damage.
