Abstract   A super-resonant monophase DC-AC power converter which features controllable four-quadrant operation capability is presented. The controlled di/dt during turn-on eliminates turn-on losses. Zero-voltage switching is applied to assist turn-off for the forced commutated devices. Output current control and output voltage control is achieved by Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) in combination with Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) of the resonant current pulses. PAM significantly improves the required modulation index for the Pulse Position Modulation. The quasi-constant frequency operation enhances the spectral performance and facilitates the design of input and output filters. A experimental DC-AC converter is built for experimental validation.
