Abstract |
The paper introduces a flywheel energy storage device, which is based on a
brushless dc drive and is capable of enhancing the fuel economy of a hybrid-type road vehicle. Energy storage and power requirements of a full-scale device are related to the potential
performance improvements of a passenger car using standard operating cycle data. The mechanical, electrical and magnetic design constraints are explored and it is concluded that the appropriate device configuration is a double-stator, axial-field layout. |
