Abstract   This paper describes what effects have been made on products and electrical facilities by introducing versatile AC drives in the process control system of major industrial plants and in the equipments in Japan. They are benefiting from AC drives in terms of product quality and yield, power, maintenance and installation space savings, and RAS (reliability, availability, and serviceability), etc. The effects have been investigated by the subcommittee of IEEJ (Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan). The paper is an interim report based on the investigation.
