Abstract   Standard hard switched PWM-inverters show high switching losses and EMC problems due to their steep voltage transients. Resonant Converters can overcome some of these problems. One of the most promising topologies - the Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole Inverter (ARCPI) - has been investigated. This converter reduces the switching losses between seven and tenfold. It also combines low EMI with true PWM-control. No increase in primary device voltage or current ratings of the main switches can be observed. Two additional auxiliary switches, one inductor and two small capacitors per phase are necessary to build an ARCPI.
