IGBT's with blocking voltage-values of 600V, 1200Vand 1600Vare available for several applications. In traction application the 600V and 750V DC-mains are widely distributed. The I500V DC-mains becomes more and more interest in Asia, South America and in Europe. While 1600V IGBT-modules meet the requirements in 750V-DC mains application, there is no alternative to GTO's for higher voltages. This paper describes a 3300V IGBT-module for applications in diesel-electric trains, high speed trains and underground / suburban trains, the latter ones operating directly on the 1500V DC-mains with motor power ratings up to 1.5 MW. 3-level inverters with 3300V IGBT's allow operation at 3000V DC mains or at 2300V AC lines in industrial converters, a widely distributed line voltage in North America. |
