Abstract |
This paper discusses some aspects of the feasibility of using a forced commutated current source inverter in a HVDC transmission system. This type of inverter might be interesting in special situations such as feeding weak or passive ac networks or in multi-terminal systems. After presenting the converter topology and giving design criteria, a control strategy is proposed and analysed. Static behaviour and aspects of the transient system behaviour are shown. The investigations are based on digital simulations. Need for further studies is pointed out where necessary. The results show that this type of converter can be of interest for future use in HVDC systems. |
