Abstract	This paper deals with: - the problem and position of power electronics in processes today, interfacing with process automation, - present solution and advantages, - solutions for the near future. As a conclusion, the three expertises for power electronics specialists wil be discussed: - power engineering and architectures, - design and manufacturing, - automation in power electronics techniques.
