AC/AC modular multilevel topologies Modular Multilevel Matrix Converter, Hexverter, and Modular Multilevel Converter in back-to-back configuration are still operable with one or more failed non-redundant modules. This paper proposes two novel approaches for the operation of these converter topologies in wind energy systems with a reduced number of modules. For each topology, the remaining operating area for different scenarios of failed modules is presented, and the influence on the annual energy production is shown. |
