Abstract   For the AC-DC conversion in drive systems, Power Factor Correction (PFC) converters are widely usedas they can ensure a high power factor. The EMI filters that are needed for meeting grid regulationshave a considerable impact on the total converter volume. In this paper, a method to optimize an EMIfilter stage of a PFC converter with respect to volume, is investigated. It includes the optimal choice ofthe boost inductance value, as it has a big impact on both the converter and the EMI filter design. Inaddition, different damping topologies are investigated and compared with each other. It is shown that incomparison to a boost inductance value so that the boost inductor current ripple is set to 15 \% of the inputcurrent, an optimal boost inductance value reduces the total volume of EMI filter and boost inductor upto 17 \%.
