Abstract |
Nowadays, many applications in power electronics need current sensing (current mode control, current limiting, power factor correction, etc.). Although there are several ways to sense current -shunt resistors, current transformers or Hall-effect devices, for example-, a new family of current sensors based
on amorphous wires is described here. A qualitative description of the physical phenomenon that makes amorphous wires suitable to measure current is included in this paper, as well as the reasons to choose the most adequate structure and sensing circuit for the sensor. The result is a 21 x l4 x 8mm-device ready to be mounted on a PCB (no extra circuitry needs to be added) and mainly intended to measure sense current. |
