Abstract |
The design and optimisation of a I 25W forward converter utilising an active clamp topology is examined. Standard forward converters are generally limited to a duty-ratio of 0.5 to allow for transformer reset. The use of the active clamp topology provides a method of increasing the duty ratio above 0.5, giving greater flexibility in the design of the transformer and choice of circuit components, giving the possibility of improving efficiency. A design optimisation procedure is devised and illustrated with practical results. The potential· improvements in efficiency are shown to be greatest for low voltage DC/DC converters. |
