 Abstract   The paper deals with state-space analysis of bidirectional pulse-width-modulation (PWM) rectifier which is widely used mainly in single-phase electric traction as four quadrant (4Q) drive. The new original contribution consist of connection of direct current (DC) link smoothing inductor which is operating with unidirectional pulsed current. Advantages of a such connection is smaller ripple of net current at fixed switching frequency or lower switching frequency at constant ripple. On the other hand the inductor has to be connected via singlephase bridge rectifier. Consequently the power losses of powerswitching elements will be substantially decreased.
