 Abstract   In this paper, a single-phase permanent magnet actuator will be investigated concerning the influence of maximum ambient temperature and ambient temperature range on weight and cost. The specifications of a throttle-plate actuator for the automotive industry serve as an example. The main emphasis will be put on the different characteristics resulting from the use of ferrite magnets or NdFeB material.
