In this paper we point out that a fuzzy controller is nothing else than a characteristic surface controller. Because of this, with a fuzzy controller we cannot obtain a better system performance than using a classical controller. What is new in fuzzy control is just the way how the characteristic surface is derived. Based on this, focussing on the control of electrical drives we suggest possible fields of
application of fuzzy control and we name clearly the applications where the use of fuzzy control cannot improve the system performance. |
