 Abstract   This paper presents an improved direct torque and flux control algorithm for induction machines based on the Direct Mean Torque Control (DMTC). The new algorithm combines the high dynamic per-formance of a direct torque control method with a precise flux control. To achieve this the original DMTC algorithm is augmented by a third voltage vector if necessary and an improved flux controller is proposed. Experimental results show, that with this improved DMTC in conjunction with a 6th-order observer of the mechanical system, high frequency mechanical oscillations (400Hz ; 850Hz) can be successfully damped.
