Abstract   This paper describes the steady-state simulation results of two unidirectional boost-type three-phase rectifiers; the two-switch harmonic injection based rectifier and the three-switch/level VIENNA I rectifier. The principle operation of the rectifier topologies examined and control systems applied are analysed. The rectifier topologies are designed to operate at 10kW (230/400V@50Hz) rated output power so that the total harmonic line current distortion (THD) is 4%. The DC link voltage is set at 650V. The applied average switching frequency is 5kHz. Simulations are carried out with SimplorerÆÊ. The simulation models are non-ideal. The semiconductor devices are modelled on the basis of the manufacturer¡¦s datasheets in order to take the true power loss and switching transient behaviour into account. Passive component models are also modelled to be non-ideal. On the basis of the simulation results, the power losses and voltage and current ratings of the components needed in the main circuits and filters are determined. With the help of these results, the two rectifier topologies are compared.
