Abstract   Overall stability of windparks is a main issue. Concerning stability, different aspects have to be judged, like e.g. resonant, harmonic and low-frequency stability. Some of these aspects can be assessed in the frequency domain but the only common base of all stability problems is the time domain. Therefore, the assessment of stability – especially in this early phase of windpark technology – should be performed in time domain including the control algorithms of the manufacturers. In this paper, a simulation approach is introduced which is able to handle the introduced requirements of stability assessment. The basic concept is introduced and first simulation results concerning offshore windparks with AC coupling outline the danger of stability problems in the context of the available low short-circuit power and the enormous amount of power-electronic converters operated at the same common point coupling.
