Designed for the specific function of a full-convert power converter for Multi-Megawatt (MW) variable speed wind turbines, this paper will describe the key design features of the resulting product.The paper describes a power converter system, design-optimised for mass produced wind turbines containing direct drive permanent magnet generators (PMG) that provide fully grid compliant power generation up to 6 MW ratings. It describes the requirements – including those imposed by the generator and grid connection characteristics, innovations to meet these requirements, and resulting performance. |
