Abstract   Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive method for treating various ailments in the fields of urology, dermatology and orthopedics. The electro-hydraulic method is especially suitable for creating the shock wave. In a therapy head outside the human body, powerful electrical sparks are triggered. A novel electronic circuit was developed to generate the high voltages (up to 25 kV) and currents (up to 10 kA) required for this purpose. Inexpensive low-voltage standard components are exclusively employed, extending the service life of the electrodes, increasing the energy efficiency and lowering the cost of the therapeutic apparatus.
