The implementation of more and more distributed power sources into the electric power grid (Wind, Solar Power, CHP etc.) may has the impact of an "inverse" electric power flow compared to the origin design of the grid. This and the increasing share of distributed power sources concerning the total installed electric power generation lead to changes in requirements to the power conversion units. In the past, at a low share, these units had been simply switched off, when grid failures occured. This situation has been completely changed. Grid connected distributed power sources have to be capable for grid control, fault ride through and ancillary services as other power sources in the upper power range do. The presentation gives an overview of the basics, grid code requirements and structural solutions for the power conditioning units of solar and wind power converter installations. The problems of lower power units to fulfill some of the requirements are covered. |
