Abstract   A variable-speed wind power generation system, based on direct torque control (DTC) of an interior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG), is proposed herein. The proposed system can achieve the MPPT control without wind speed in addition to the speed and position sensorless control as well as the current control method. DTC has several advantages such as simple system configuration, easy control of flux-weakening, and it doesn't need a position sensor. In particular, the proposed control method can maintain the voltage and current at the rated value in the high speed operating region. Furthermore, as the armature resistance is the only necessary parameter, the system is insensitive to parameter variations. The performance of the proposed wind generation system was validated experimentally.
